Excess fluoride in water linked to cognitive impairment in children: Study

A study conducted in rural Ethiopia found that long-term consumption of water with high fluoride levels may be linked to cognitive impairments in children. The research, published in the journal Neurotoxicology and Teratology, discovered that higher exposure to fluoride in drinking water was associated with more errors on drawing and memory tests. While the causal relationship between fluoride exposure and neurotoxicity remains unclear, the study adds to growing concerns about the potential cognitive impacts of fluoride, particularly during early brain development and childhood.
