Researchers investigate occurrence of microplastics in cloud water
Microplastics, tiny plastic particles less than 5 mm in diameter, have been found in various organs of humans and animals. These particles end up in the ocean and disperse as ocean spray, entering the atmosphere. A recent study by Japanese scientists found that microplastics are a significant component of clouds, leading to "plastic rainfall" and potentially causing irreversible environmental damage.
